The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, has proposed to set up a permanent price monitoring mechanism to check spiralling prices of vegetables and essential commodities.
The Chief Minister said that this would help procure vegetables based on lower prices in certain markets and sold at public distribution system (PDS) centres and Rythu Bazaars.
The State has 80 Rythu Bazaars. The Chief Minister has also instructed officials to modernise Rythu Bazaars.
During a review meeting, the Chief Minister proposed linking of farmers' Aadhaar cards to their bank accounts to curtail the role of middlemen and their interference.
The Government plans to restore early morning buses through which farmers can transport their produce. These buses were introduced during the previous TDP regime.
According to a statement, the Chief Minister said regional cold storage facilities will be set up in Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Tirupati and Tadepalligudem.
He instructed officials to update the prices of vegetables online.
The Government plans to hold buffer stock and release them when the prices rise.
