Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Kiran Reddy on Tuesday requested Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to help secure natural gas to meet the requirement of power plants and additional power for State.
The Chief Minister called on the Prime Minister today at Delhi and submitted a letter explaining the acute gas shortage to run the gas-based power generation plants in the State. He requested PM to direct the Petroleum and Energy ministries to take immediate steps to ensure sufficient gas supply and electricity to the State and help overcome the power shortage.
Reddy requested the PM to intervene and facilitate diversion of 3 MMSCMD from KG -D6 presently being supplied to the fertiliser units in Gujarat and Maharashtra. In lieu these units can be supplied with RLNG from the West coast.
The Centre was also requested to allocate 2 MMSCMD of regular long term contract RLNG gas (Qatar Gas) to AP for the next 6 months.
He expressed the need to allocate Non-Administered Price Mechanism gas of 7.0 MMSCMD to AP as and when it becomes available.
The CM further wanted 500 MW unallocated power from Central Generating Stations of Southern Region may be supplied to the State.
Besides, he requested allocation of 300 MW of unallocated power from Kundankulam Atomic Power Plant and 75 MW from Neyveli-2 expansion on long term basis to Andhra Pradesh.
