Circulating images of Rahul Gandhi interacting with voters at polling booths here on Wednesday while polling was on for the Amethi Lok Sabha seat, both the BJP and the AAP alleged that the Congress was trying to influence voters on election day.

The images showed the Congress Vice-President talking to voters inside a polling booth in Amethi, while another image showed him looking at an EVM while a voter stood next to him.

The images were shared on the Twitter handles of the BJP and the AAP.

“EC overlooking blatant violation of election norms by Gandhis on a polling day is shocking. Clear signs of a very desperate Congress,” BJP leader Vijay Goel tweeted.

An Election Commission (EC) official said that while candidates are allowed to go to polling booths, they cannot go to the voting area where EVMs are kept.

The AAP also alleged that there were various instances of booth capturing in various voting stations in Amethi.

Lotus symbol Meanwhile, Rahul raised an objection to the drawing of a lotus, the poll symbol of the BJP, on a blackboard located at a polling booth.

While taking rounds of polling stations in the constituency, he objected to a lotus sketched on a blackboard in a polling centre in Phulwa village in Tiloi and said he would complain to the EC against it.

However, Tiloi SDM AK Singh said they were yet to receive any complaint on the matter.

The EC had directed the authorities to cover all the election symbols which were displayed at schools.
