Nandan Nilekani, the Congress’ Bangalore South candidate, has turned aggressive over his rival, the BJP’s Ananth Kumar. “It is an embarrassment that a city of the size and prominence of Bangalore has an MP who is ranked 139th in performance. What we need is a top-ranked MP, who will acknowledge and work for our people’s priorities,” he said while campaigning.
“When I speak to the people in Bangalore South, they don’t even know who their MP is, since he has not bothered to visit them after getting elected,” Nilekani said.
Talking about the city’s civic issues, he said: “When Bangaloreans ask Ananth Kumar about the problems of the city, he sidesteps, saying that their problems are the corporation’s problems or MLA’s problems.”
“I strongly disagree. There is a lot that an MP can do to help solve these issues, by working with local and State Governments,” Nilekani pointed out.
“There is much we can achieve for the city in the coming five years,” Nilekani said and added: “I intend to work towards ensuring that every household in Bangalore has access to water.” He further said he intends to help develop a transport grid for the city, one that gives an integrated road, rail, metro, and commuter rail solution.
