A day after a Trinamool Congress MP was arrested on charges of being involved in the Saradha scam, CPI(M) today demanded a CBI probe into the ponzi scandal that has rocked West Bengal.
“We have been demanding CBI investigation under Supreme Court’s monitoring into the scam. Several states are involved in it and some of them have also demanded CBI probe,” leader of Opposition in the state assembly Suryakanta Mishra told reporters here.
Several names have been revealed in the Saradha case which includes top level leaders of Trinamool Congress including its ministers and MPs, he said in response to questions.
He alleged that the local police and the state administration were “not going in the right direction” on the investigations into the case.
“If the chief minister of Karnataka can be arrested after a CBI probe or a union Cabinet minister can be sent to jail, why the CBI can’t take up investigation into this case,” Mishra asked.
He said, lot of unearthing has to be done and investigations should be carried out properly under the apex court’s directions.
Suspended Trinamool Congress MP Kunal Ghosh was arrested yesterday by Bidhannagar Police in connection with the Saradha Group ponzi scam.
Ghosh, the CEO of Saradha Group’s media arm, was charged under sections 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 120B (conspiracy) of the IPC.
