The Kerala Catholic Bishops Council, which early this week said it would support the Narendra Modi Government, will soon be sending a delegation to meet the Prime Minister to urge him not to implement the Madhav Gadgil panel’s recommendations on Western Ghats.

The delegation will also apprise the Union Ministers concerned and top officials of the impact of the recommendations on the farmers and people living in the high ranges, the KCBC said. It said that while protecting the Western Ghats, farmers and people living in the upland areas also need to be protected.

The KCBC and the Catholic Church’s various agencies strongly oppose the implementation of recommendations of the Gadgil panel as well as those of the high-level working group headed by K Kasturirangan.

The Modi Government’s reported inclination towards the Kasturirangan report has deeply worried the KCBC.
