The sugarcane crushing has commenced in units of Nizam Deccan Sugar Factory in Bodhan and Mumbajipet in Nizamanbad and Medak districts respectively on Saturday.
The crushing in Metpalli unit in Karimnagar district would begin on Dec 14, 2013 and the delay was due to shortage of labour, the factory management had informed the State Government.
The representatives of farmers from these districts had met Minister for medium irrigation, P Sudarshan Reddy and Minister of civil supplies, D Sridhar Babu and requested that the Govt share in the factory should be transferred to the private management as part of the agreement inked earlier to ensure the availability of minimum support price to the farmers.
The factory was set up in the public-private participation mode in 2002-03. According to a company representative, Nizam Deccan Sugar suffered a loss of about Rs 145 crore and there was a danger company going under the Board of Industrial and Financial Reconstruction if the same situation continued, according to a release.
