Chennai-based Dr Agarwal’s Eye Hospital will invest Rs 300-400 crore in the next two years to expand its global footprint.
The hospital group currently has 60 eye hospitals in India and Africa.
There are seven centres in the Mauritius (2 facilities), Seychelles, Madagascar, Nigeria, Rwanda and Mozambique. “In two years, we want to have 60 more centres.
Most of them will be in India. We are also looking at more hospitals in Africa and in Malaysia,” said Amar Agarwal, Chairman and Managing Director.
“There is so much blindness in Africa. There is also a huge need for manpower and instruments,” said Agarwal. In India, the group has hospitals in Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Tirunelveli, Madurai and Rajasthan. It is now eyeing Maharashtra, Gujarat and Punjab.
The investment for the expansion will be funded through internal accruals, said Agarwal. The hospital group hopes to clock revenues of Rs 350 crore in the 2013-14 financial year.
