Local bodies in Erode district have been allotted Rs 6.10 crore for water supply schemes to battle drought, according to Collector Dr V K Shanmugam
Due to adverse seasonal conditions, the district is now in the grip of drought. So a special request was sent to the Government for water supply schemes, which granted Rs 6.10 crore to the district to meet the water requirements, he said.
He was speaking while participating in the Gram Sabha meeting conducted in Muthugoundenpalayam near here yesterday.
Of this amount, Rs 2.14 crore was granted to 14 panchayat unions and remaining Rs 3.96 crore for 224 village panchayats, he said.
The amount would be utilised for deepening borewells, sinking new borewells and desilting open wells and also digging new wells, he said.
