BJP MP from Haridwar and former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank has identified Govardhanpur village under Khanpur assembly segment of his constituency to develop it as a model village under the Centre’s ambitious Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana.
The village was adopted by the MP after discussions held with party workers at his camp office in Nandpuri colony of Haridwar yesterday, BJP state office In-Charge Urbadutt Bhatt said here.
Residents of Govardhanpur expressed their gratitude to Nishank for the decision saying it will improve the condition of basic amenities in their village including roads, availability of power and drinking water besides educational and medical facilities.
Nishank is the first of the five BJP MPs from Uttarakhand to identify a village in his constituency under the rural development scheme which aims at improving the standard of living and quality of life of all sections of people by improving basic amenities in their village.
The Centre had recently expressed its displeasure over the slow response of MPs to the scheme, with few of them adopting one village each under the scheme so far.
The scheme was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Independence Day speech from the ramparts of the Red Fort on August 15.
