The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) on Sunday revived their demand for a separate Gorkhaland. A fresh agitation began today with the GJM taking out a rally in Darjeeling.
“The time has come to fight to the end. If Telangana can be granted, why not Gorkhaland, which is the oldest Statehood demand in the country?” GJM General Secretary Roshan Giri said.
Another public meeting will be organised on January 27 demanding separate statehood. After signing the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) agreement — that gave autonomous status to Darjeeling — in July 2011, the Morcha has refrained from agitations and is putting a lot of emphasis on development in the region.
