To be launched by Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel on Friday

The app will be available to 23,000 factory owners registered with GPCB

In a first of its kind initiative the Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) is all set to launch the country’s first mobile application for compliance, monitoring and regulation of pollution at factory premises in the State.

Step closer

Jointly developed by National Informatics Center (NIC) and officials of the GPCB, the app will be available to 23,000 factory owners registered with GPCB.

Seen as a step closer to realising the concept of a ‘Digital India’ envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the app will be launched by Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel on Friday at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar.

“We had initiated the work on this app soon after the PM’s announcement from the Red Fort on August 15. And now, we have a mobile app that will not only make compliance quick and effective but also bring transparency in operation,” Hardik Shah, member secretary, GPCB, told

BusinessLine on Thursday.

Quick alert

The app will be available for download from Friday on the GPCB portal gpcb.gov.in . “Factory owners can download the app on their android smart phones and soon it will be available on iOS as well,” Shah said. The app will alert factory owners via SMS as soon as a GPCB inspector visits the premises and collects the sample. The owners will also get a report on their mobiles if the sample collected from the factory complies with the pollution norms or not.

GPCB conducts quarterly inspection of all the 23,000 units in the State in a phased manner.
