ICICI Academy for Skills plans to equip 5,000 youths with required skill sets during its first year of operation.
The academy, promoted by ICICI Foundation for Inclusive Growth, envisions to treble this number to 15,000 by 2016.
The objective of this exercise is equipping youngsters from economically weaker sections earn for sustainable living and participate in economic opportunities, an ICICI Bank spokesperson said.
Launching the centre at Coimbatore, M.S. Ramachandran, Director, ICICI Bank, said the centre will offer courses in four disciplines — selling skills, electrical and home appliance repair, refrigeration and air conditioning repair and pumps and motor repair.
ICICI Academy has formalised the content for the said disciplines by partnering with Schneider Electric India Pvt Ltd, Blue Star Ltd and Crompton Greaves respectively.
The bank will use in-house expertise to impart the training on selling skills.
The centre here offers residential facilities for students enrolled in electrical and home appliance repair, refrigeration and air conditioning repair and pumps and motor repair.
In addition to offering training free of cost, the academy will provide uniforms, meals and all relevant course material to students. Each centre will also have a library for students to use.
The duration of the courses vary between 8 and 12 weeks
The first centre of this academy was launched at Jaipur two months back. It has since expanded its presence by launching centres in Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Pune.
