Condemning the frequent hikes in fuel prices, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa has demanded the rollback of the latest increase in petrol price.
Instead, the Centre should take steps to change the way petrol prices are fixed, considering the welfare of the nation.
It must take steps to explore new oil and gas fields, the Chief Minister said in a statement. Increasing the prices of petroleum citing rupee depreciation as the reason is not acceptable.
It will lead to increase in the prices of essential commodities, devaluation of the rupee and erosion of the Indian economy, she said.
