The Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mangalore, has opposed the move to introduce foreign direct investment in multi-brand retail trade.
A press release by KCCI said here on Tuesday that the Union Government has issued notification to introduce FDI in multi-brand retail despite countrywide protest and strong objection against this move by farmers, labourers and the trading community.
Introduction of FDI in multi-brand retail trade is not only against the interest of farmers, traders and workers but totally against national interest, the release said.
It said that the traders in the Mangalore Old Bunder area and their workers have decided to hold a mass protest against introduction of FDI in multi-brand retail trade on November 22.
The traders, before opening their shops, will assemble at KCCI together with their workers. They will hold the protest meeting at the meeting hall of KCCI building and communicate the decision taken during the meeting to the district administration to forward the same to the Karnataka Government, the Union Government and the Prime Minister urging them to withdraw immediately the notification for introduction of FDI in multi-brand retail trade, it added.
