The Karnataka Government has taken steps to recruit around 8,500 police personnel during the year, according to KJ George, Karnataka Home Minister.

Inaugurating the police community hall in Mangaluru here on Tuesday, he said that around 4,500 police personnel retire every year. There was no recruitment in the last four years. However, the Karnataka Government took a decision to fill the vacancies in the department.

There are around 22,500 vacancies of sanctioned posts in the State, he said.

Of that, around 8,500 will be recruited during the year. Since the government has facilities to train only 4,500 people in the state, only 8500 are being recruited this year. The rest are being trained in temporary facilities for that, he said.
