DMK President M Karunanidhi today deeply condoled the death of party’s former MP and trade union wing leader C Kuppusamy, saying he was known for his “dedication to work” and “lofty principles”.

“He (Kuppusamy) faced several difficulties in his personal life and public life but, did not bother about them and was dedicated towards his work,” he said in a release here.

Though labour wing was formed in 1977, it got recognition only in 2008 due to the continued efforts of Kuppusamy, he said adding that it was painful to note that Kuppusamy under whom the membership of trade union rose to 15 lakh was “no more”.

A party statement said party flags would fly half-mast during the next three days and DMK members were asked to postpone party functions.

Karunanidhi’s son and party Treasurer M K Stalin, Kanimozhi and senior DMK leaders paid floral tributes to Kuppusamy today.

88-year-old Kuppusamy passed away at his residence on Friday. He was survived by his wife and two sons.
