Ernakulam district suffered losses to the tune of Rs 25.86 crore on account of the rains and subsequent loss of property and crops.
The claim was presented by the district administration to the Central team, which visited various places and met farmers who had lost substantial acreage under banana cultivation.
The district administration estimates that losses to the tune of Rs 14 crore were suffered in the farming sector and in damage to houses, drinking water wells and power supply lines. Damage to roads cost approximately Rs 11 crore.
