The State government will take action against coir cooperative societies that are not properly using the funds allotted to them by the government. The government will take stock of the societies not utilising the funds allocated to increase production and ensure better pay to workers. Many of them have deposited the funds in banks while a few have misused it. The government will do a thorough check and initiate action against such societies, Minister for Revenue and Coir Adoor Prakash said.
Interacting with the coir workers at Coir Kerala 2014 here, he said immediate action would be taken to promote procurement of husk and ensure steady supply of husk to the workers for coir production.
The government have decided to introduce an incentive scheme for the workers to promote husk procurement. An additional amount will be given to those who procure more husk than the prescribed quantity. The scheme will be implemented soon so as to ensure steady supply of coir fibre to the workers, he said
The government is aware of the problems faced by the coir societies and the government’s main aim is to equip the societies to become exporters.
