The Assembly election results are still being declared in Maharashtra and the BJP is leading in 111 seats. Its former allay Shiv Sena is ahead in 61 seats, while the Congress is ahead in 44 seats and the Nationalist Congress Party in 47 seats.
The BJP is all set to emerge the single largest party in the State but would fall well short of a simple majority in the Legislative Assembly of 288. The chances of the BJP forming an alliance with the Shiv Sena, therefore, seem quite high.
Member of Parliament and senior BJP leader, Kirit Somaiya told mediapersons that the people of Maharashtra have given a mandate in favour of the BJP, therefore the party will form the new Government in the State, he said.
“People have reposed their faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his good governance. For the first time, the BJP is ahead in so many seats. By late afternoon the position would be clear and after that the State executive and party high command in New Delhi will decide on the future course of action,” he said.
He added that the people of Maharashtra have started hating the Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party, which is getting reflected in the results, he said.
On the possibly of the BJP forming an alliance with the Shiv Sena in Maharashtra, Somaiya was non-committal, merely saying that all those who have faith in Modi’s leadership will join the party.
