To handle extra rush during the Durga Puja, the Kolkata Metro Railway will run 76 extra trains on Saptami, Ashtami and Navami days, a Metro spokesperson said today.
The trains will ply from 2 p.m. to 4 a.m. during these three days.
However, on the day of Dasami, trains will run only from 4 p.m. to 9.45 p.m, he said.
Officials said they had 542 trains last year, while this time they have decided to run 618 trains.
Meanwhile, the Metro railway has created an all time high record by carrying 7.42 lakh passengers on a single day yesterday, the officials said.
The feat surpasses its last record created on January 3, 2011 when 7.16 lakh passengers had used the underground rail service.
For security reasons, X-ray baggage machines have been installed in the 23 Metro stations just before the festive season.
