The Arya Vaidya Chikitsalayam and Research Institute, Coimbatore, and the University of Latvia have inked an agreement to offer ayurvedic education programmes to Western medical graduates.
The proposed programmes, as per the agreement, will be conducted by a reputed university in Europe and the first course will commence in September 2014.
Global footingThis MoU is significant in the history of globalisation of Ayurveda, as the proposed education programme is aimed to train Western medical doctors in a professional way and help Ayurveda get a stronger global footing, say experts at the Arya Vaidya Chikitsalayam and Research Institute.
The MoU was signed in Latvia in the presence of Banshri Bose Harrison, Ambassador of India to Sweden and Latvia. She said an Agreement on Cooperation in the field of Health Care and Medical Science was signed between India and Latvia in 2012. It envisaged cooperation in exchange of information including on Ayurveda. This MoU, therefore would be a formal step towards achieving that goal.
