As the reservoirs of the hydro-electric projects are getting recharged and power consumption is falling across the State, the Kerala State Electricity Board on Sunday lifted load-shedding.
Last year’s shortage in rainfall and the unusually hot summer this year had forced KSEB to resort to load-shedding which in the second leg had been for one hour in the daytime and half hour at night.
Southwest monsoon, which is the key source of rainfall, has been quite liberal far more than a fortnight now. The monsoon rains had started a couple of days earlier than forecast and it is expected that the total rainfall would be more than normal.
There has been abundant rainfall in the catchment areas of the main hydroelectric projects, particularly Idukki. The reservoirs, which had almost hit rock-bottom towards the end of May, are now one-sixth full.
The high temperature and humidity this summer had forced power consumption to peak even as sale of air-conditioners, fans and inverters shot up.
