The big crowd that was present at the election rally of the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi at Amethi has rattled Congress circles. Though the grand old party swears that there is no question of even a decrease in the winning margin of its candidate, party Vice President Rahul Gandhi, the organisational machinery in the area is working overtime to ensure that all of its votes are polled on Wednesday.

The BJP and its candidate Smriti Irani have been maintaining that they will spring “a surprise” in Amethi on the counting day. Modi said in his speech that the Gandhi family had neglected Amethi for four decades.

“I have come here for bringing about a change in this constituency which has been neglected by the Gandhi family despite representing it for 40 years. You just invoke family relations with the people here but do nothing for its development,” he said.

Apart from Rahul, Sanjay, Rajiv and Sonia Gandhi have represented the constituency in the past.

Congress leaders said Modi’s rally will make the party workers alert. “There will be no scope for complacency this time. Our workers will ensure that all our voters come to the booth on the polling day,” a senior leader said. He added that Modi’s visit will have no impact on Rahul’s majority.
