Taking forward the Swachch Bharat Abhiyan , the Government will start real-time monitoring of toilet use in rural areas from January.
The nation-wide monitoring system, to be unveiled by the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, aims to involve citizens to check and verify the use of toilets in rural areas through mobile phones, tablets or i-pads and upload pictures in case of any discrepancy on the Ministry’s website, an official release said.
To implement the Swachh Bharat Mission, the Ministry is also adding around two dozen additional staff, including two Joint Secretaries, four Directors and their subordinate staff. An expert committee will be set up to examine innovative technologies for toilets, and solid and liquid waste management, apart from a national helpline for rural water supply and sanitation.
