Visakhapatnam will become a favoured destination for investors, tourists and other sections of people, and every effort will be made to develop the city as a most modern one in the State, according to Chief Minister N. Chandra Babu Naidu.

Complimenting the people of the city for their resolve in overcoming the major setback to life caused by Hudhud a month ago, he promised here on Monday that he would personally monitor the growth of the city. He was addressing a gathering at MVP Colony after planting a sapling there to launch the ‘Rejuvenating Vizag’ campaign. He also launched a portal, developed by Pheonix IT Solutions, for mapping the planted saplings and tracking their growth.

He said the city would be rebuilt to make it more resilient to cyclones. The focus would be on infrastructure such as underground power cables and service ducts for telephone lines and other cables. He said he would be the Chairman of the new urban development authority to be formed for the city’s development and would take up its development in phases. Promising to regularly visit the city, he said he would constantly monitor parameters such as pollution.

Recalling that Indigo had signed an MoU with the State Government to make Visakhapatnam its hub, he said during his recent visit to Singapore, SilkAir officials told him that they were planning more flights from here and to other destinations.
