The Mumbai-based artist Jitish Kallat will be the curator for the second edition of the Kochi Muziris Biennale, to be held next year.
The Kochi-Muziris Biennale, India’s only biennale, was first held in 2012. The arts show, which featured the works in different mediums by 89 artists from 23 countries, ran for 96 days from 12.12.12. The first biennale to be held ever in India, it was considered a huge success with around four lakh people visiting it.
Bose Krishnamachari and Riyaz Komu, who were co-curators of the last biennale and currently the president and secretary respectively of the Kochi Biennale Foundation, told a news conference that Jitish Kallat was an ideal choice for curating the show.
Kallat works in a variety of media such as painting, sculpture, installation, photography and animation video. His works featured at several biennale overseas and he has also held several solo exhibitions in India and abroad.
