Second Innings, a part of the Organ Donation Campaign, has launched its organ donation drive in Bangalore. The initiative was launched by Manipal Health Enterprises in the presence of cricketer Venkatesh Prasad and Satish Chandra, Vice-Chancellor, Nimhans. For the initiative, Second Innings has brought five hospitals – Apollo Hospital, BGS Global, Columbia Asia Hospital, Fortis Hospital and Manipal Hospital – government organisations, FICCI and NGOs together on a common platform.
BEL to build college building
Bharat Electronics Ltd India (BEL), defence public sector, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities, will construct a building for the Government First Grade College at HSR Layout in the city. The project cost is Rs 50 lakh. The foundation for the building was laid B.L. Bhagyalakshmi, Director, Karnataka Department of Collegiate Education, and Latha Narasimha Murthy, BBMP Corporator. Nataraj Krishnappa, GM (HR), BEL-Bangalore; Ghanshyam Narain, GM (CSR & Sustainable Development) were present.
The 9th edition of ‘Nutra India Summit’ focusing on nutraceutical, functional foods and dietary supplements will be held at 7 pm on August 26, at The Lalit Ashok. State Minister for Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Dinesh Gundu Rao will be the chief guest. Dignitaries include V. Prakash, Chairman, Nutra India Summit and Chairman, Advisory Council, NuFFooDS Spectrum, M.N. Vidyashankar, Principal Secretary, Commerce and Industries, I.S.N. Prasad, Principal Secretary, IT, BT and S&T.
Agri tech expos
Farmers should form co-operatives to address the problem of fragmented landholdings so that they can use the best and the biggest machines to increase production and productivity and meet the challenges of labour shortage, said Karnataka Minister for Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Dinesh Gundu Rao while inaugurating Agri Tech India 2013. The 5th edition of Agri Tech India also saw five concurrent expos at Bangalore International Exhibition Centre.
Processing centre for TDS
Dedicated Central Processing Centre (CPC) to process TDS (Tax Deducted at Source) of the Income Tax Department will soon be fully operational, said Ashutosh Chandra, Commissioner of Income Tax, Bangalore -2. Speaking at a seminar on TDS organised by Assocham, he said once fully operational, CPC will substantially cut down the problems associated with filing of TDS returns and matching of due refunds. Lauding the tax payers of Karnataka – Goa region, Chandra said the region had clocked highest growth in TDS collections which was almost double the national average. He said this reflected better understanding of law and the urge to comply with the same. S S Mantri, Additional Commissioner of Income Tax (TDS), Bangalore, advised delegates to approach the I-T Department for clarifications on various issues.
