Former Finance and Commercial Editor of The Hindu , Mr P. A. Seshan, who steps into his 100th year on July 7, will be honoured and felicitated by the Board of Directors, Kasturi & Sons, at a function here on Saturday.
Palamadai Ananthanarayana Seshan was born on July 7 1913 and hails from Tirunelveli district. After working with Indian Finance and the Employers’ Association of Calcutta, he began his long association with The Hindu in 1952 as Financial Correspondent on an honororium basis. He joined the staff in 1957. Though he reached the age of superannuation in 1971, he continued in service till 1994. He was designated Commercial and Financial Editor in 1991. He was retained as consultant till 1998, but continued to contribute an occasional column to the Business Review.
‘Leo notes’
Mr Seshan will be remembered for his incisive column — ‘Leo notes’ which was avidly followed by small and new investors. He anchored The Hindu’s annual Survey of Indian Industry, which grew in size and stature under his guidance. He continues as a consultant to some companies even now. Deeply attached to his village, Mr Seshan continues to serve as President, Governing body of the 130-year old Pattamadai Rameseshaier Higher Secondary School, and President of Sri Venkatachalapathy Seva Samithi, Pattamadai.
Some of the leading industrialists, including Mr Pollachi N. Mahalingam, Mr Suresh Krishna, and Mr R. Thyagarajan, will felicitate Mr Seshan.
