Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi targeted Gujarat-based Adani Group once again, at an election rally in Mumbai on Sunday.
The city goes to the polls later this week (April 24).
He said that the Chief Minister of Gujarat Narendra Modi had given 45,000 acres of farmers land to the group at the rate of Rs 1 per square metre. “That is the price of toffee,” he told the gathering. Modi is so close to the Adani Group, that BJP leader Advani has been replaced by Adani, he added.
Gujarat’s development model is nothing but a hot air balloon. The development in that state has come to stand still and workers in textile and diamond polishing sector are suffering, he said.
Gandhi was a last minute replacement for Sonia Gandhi, who was to visit Mumbai on Sunday. Nevertheless, he assured the crowd that the UPA if voted back to power will ensure free medical care for the urban poor and workers. The cost of expensive operations would be borne by the government, he said.
The city of Mumbai would be made a manufacturing hub, which will provide job opportunities to the workers. Just like `Made in China’ has become a brand for watches and shoes, Made in Mumbai will also become a brand, if UPA is again voted to power, he said.
BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi is slated to address a gathering at the same venue in the city on Monday.
