The image of the Indian Navy has suffered a bit in recent times because of mishaps, but the force remains one of the best in the world. Steps are being taken to prevent mishaps, said the Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral R K Dhowan, here on Wednesday.
He was addressing the media at INS Circars. This was his first visit to Visakhapatnam after taking over as Naval Chief. He said the Navy had instituted safety audit to ensure that such mishaps did not recur.
Admiral Dhowan also said it was the duty of the officers to pay attention to the living conditions of the personnel and keep them happy.
Addressing the officers and sailors of the Eastern Naval Command, Admiral Dhowan urged them to work hard to keep the force combat-ready at all times.
He said the Navy would revive the Division system to create the right atmosphere at workplace for sailors. Further, steps would be taken to ensure that the best training is provided to sailors. He urged everyone to follow safety measures.
The Admiral said the Indian Navy is committed to indigenisation and 44 ships and submarines were under production at different shipyards in the country. The first of the four anti-submarine warfare corvettes being built at Garden Reach Shipyard in Kolkatta under Project 28 will soon join the fleet of the Eastern Naval Command. The indigenous nuclear submarine Arihant will go for sea trials soon.
Earlier, the President’s Colours presented to the Eastern Naval Command were paraded at the Ceremonial Parade organised on the occasion of the Navy Chief’s maiden visit to the ENC headquarters.
The Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Eastern Naval Command, Vice-Admiral Anil Chopra, senior flag and staff officers of the ENC were present.
