Five Congress Lok Sabha MPs belonging to Seemandhara have appealed to President Pranabh Mukherjee to stall the process of bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.

They alleged that the UPA was a minority Government and didn’t muster enough support for the bifurcation from its allies. “The Telangana Bill is fully of errors and mistakes as it was prepared hurriedly to take mileage in the forthcoming general elections,” the MPs said in their memorandum to the President, who is here on his winter sojourn in the South, on Sunday.

Those who met the President on Sunday included Rayapati Sambasiva Rao, G.V. Harsha Kumar, Vundavalli Arun Kumar and Lagadapati Rajagopal. They alleged that the UPA Government had prepared the Bill to get more seats from Telangana region.

“It is one sided and totally ignored the interests of the Seemandhra region. The new Government may not agree with the financial commitments made in the bill by the out-going UPA Government,” they pointed out. They claimed that the Government had only support of 229 MPs.

The Samajwadi Party, which was supporting the Government from outside, had taken a stand against the division of Andhra Pradesh.

Meanwhile, Congress leader and Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah too met the President and updated him about the debate on the Bill.
