At least 13 people were killed by lightning strikes and house collapses when a storm hit Uttar Pradesh, a news report said Monday.
The storm lashed the state’s eastern districts of Sonebhadra, Mirzapur and Bhadohi late Sunday, the IANS news agency reported. Over a dozen people were injured.
Many thatched houses collapsed and sheds were blown away. A large number of cattle was also killed, the report said.
Rescue and relief operations were under way and teams were removing uprooted trees that had blocked major roads.
The storm occurred during the height of summer, which has seen soaring temperatures across many states. The monsoon rains normally reach the north of the country in July.
