In a major overhaul of the bureaucracy in Tamil Nadu, Chairman and Managing Director of the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO), K. Gnanadesikan, was on Tuesday appointed as Chief Secretary. He replaced Mohan Verghese Chunkath who held the post since April this year.
An officer of the 1982 batch of the IAS, Gnanadesikan held various positions in the State government including Finance Secretary (2005-2010) and Home Secretary (2010-2011). Chunkath has been sent to the Anna Institute of Management as the Additional Chief Secretary/Director.
Only about a week back, Gnanadesikan along with six others in batch were promoted to the Chief Secretary grade. He is the fourth Chief Secretary since May 2011. Debendranath Sarangi and Sheela Balakrishnan were the other two persons who held the post. He has five more years to go for retirement.
M. Saikumar, who is the Public Works Secretary since May 2011, has been made the new Chairman and Managing Director of the TANGEDCO.
Ten other senior officers were also transferred.
