The Tamil Nadu Government will implement a Rs 1,481 crore Coastal Disaster Risk Reduction Project with financial assistance from the World Bank.
Making a suo motu statement in the Assembly, the Chief Minister, J. Jayalalithaa, said 121 Coastal Safety Centres, roads up to 50 km to these centres and 439 warning systems would be facilitated under this project.
The Project would be overseen by Tamil Nadu Disaster Management Authority, she said, adding, necessary infrastructure facilities would be created for the Authority.
To reduce loss during natural disasters in the coastal districts of Cuddalore and Nagapattinam, electric lines in these districts would be made underground, she said.
“The work would start this year and be completed in the next five years,” she said.
