Having achieved a significant share in the Kerala market, Tata DoCoMo is all set to expand its retail footprint in the State.
The company is in the process of launching competitive tariff plans, 2G and 3G data services in new locations and introduction of non-voice services to penetrate deep into rural pockets.
It has lined up Rs 50-crore investment this year to enhance the voice network and 3G services in several areas, Rajan Gupta, Hub Head, Mobility Business Unit, Tamil Nadu and Kerala Circle, Tata DoCoMo, said.
Addressing reporters here on Thursday, he pointed out that the company had registered a 15 per cent growth in its revenue in the State against the industry growth rate of 10 per cent. With a customer base of 2.1 million, he said the company targets a 25 per cent growth this year with a slew of new services.
To achieve this, Gupta said, they have chalked out aggressive plans by adding more technologically advanced brand retail stores across key towns to launch 3G services and several customer friendly products in data transfer.
With wide availability of smartphones in different price categories, there is an ever increasing demand in mobile applications. The company is witnessing a huge data explosion on both its 2G and 3G services, he said, adding that a 25 per cent growth is targeted in Kerala in data transfer due to high customer response.
The current retail footprint in Kerala is 17,000 outlets and an additional 3,000 more would be opened by the end of December. At present the network services are available across 644 towns and villages and 3G services would be launched in Kozhikode shortly.
With this launch, customers will be able to access high-speed 3G services in Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha.
For the benefit of migrants, Tata Teleservices through its subsidiary, MMP Mobil Wallet Systems (MMPL), also launched mRupee, a fund transfer through mobile. It is a money remittance service in partnership with ICICI Bank called Mobile Money Order, which is currently available in 10 cities.
The company has received encouraging response with a monthly revenue of Rs 3 crore in Chennai and Tirupur alone, he said.
