Tata Motors urged to enlist local vendors for its Dharwad unit

The Karnatak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has urged Tata Motors plant located at Dharwad to enlist vendors in North Karnataka.

“We have asked company to provide an opportunity to local industrialists from this part of the State,” Vasant N. Ladawa, Vice-President, KCCI, told Business Line.

“The automobile giant was requested to enlist local vendors after due audit of units, who are able to supply material according to quality and cost,” he added

KCCI, to create awareness about its members’ manufacturing prowess, held an interactive meet with Kumar Subramanian, Plant Head, Tata Motors Ltd , Dharwad.

KCCI President N. P. Javali led the members Kammar Udyog, Southern Ferro Ltd , Fine Blanking Ltd, Suri Automobiles and Patil Electric Company.

Industrialists who took part in the meet presented their company profile and briefed Tata Motors about their products and infrastructure for consideration to identify and support the industries in North Karnataka.

While responding to the industrialists, Kumar Subramanian said the Tata Group of companies has spread its production at the national and international level especially in automobile sector. Further, the Tata vehicle production reaches more than 160 countries in the world.

“The company became popular in automobile sector by inventing new models and environmental friendly production in manufacturing Jaguar, Ace, Daewoo, Tata Marcopolo and Aria,” said Subramanian.

Among them, Ace, the light commercial vehicle (LCV), has picked up both at the national and international markets.

The Tata Motors has plants in Jamshedpur, Lucknow, Pune, Pantnagar and Dharwad. The company is making efforts to localise sourcing few parts to cut costs.
