Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar has expressed interest in selling 100 megawatt power to neighbouring Bangladesh as the state will be power surplus by January next.
“We can sell 100 mw power to Bangladesh from our share which will further improve our relation with the neighbouring country and help develop our state,” he said after inaugurating a 21 megawatt gas based thermal power project at Rukhia in West Tripura district yesterday.
For the purpose, the state had already sent proposal to the central government, he said. If Tripura could sell its surplus power, the revenue would help develop the state, Sarkar said.
The 726 mw gas based thermal power project at Palatana in Gomati district run by ONGC Tripura Power Corporation (OTPC) would be fully operational soon and state would get 196 mw from the project as state’s share, he said.
Beside, the North East Electric Power Corporation’s 104 mw gas based thermal power project would be operational by January next and the entire generation would be utilised in the state, he said.
