Uninor has decided to switch off mobile services in the Kerala circle from January 19, 2013. This follows the quashing of licenses for unified access services by the Supreme Court on February 2 earlier this year.

LICENSE QUASHED

These licenses were issued to Unitech Wireless (Tamil Nadu) operating under the brand name of ‘Uninor,’ an advisory by the company said.

“Read with subsequent Supreme Court orders dated April 24 and August 27, the quashing of licenses become effective from the end of day January 18, 2013,” the company said.

Due to the quashing of licenses, Uninor will not be able to continue operations after 00.00 hours on January 19.

Given this, customers in Kerala circle have been advised to exhaust their balance and other benefits and ‘port out’ to a mobile operator of choice by January 18.

OTHER CIRCLES

The advisory was issued by Unitech Wireless (Tamil Nadu), erstwhile Unitech Wireless (South) and based in Kochi.

Other circles where Uninor will withdraw operations include Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Odisha, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, North East, Assam, Himachal Pradesh and West Bengal.

“No new 1800 MHz spectrum auctions has been indicated by the authorities nor will 900 MHz spectrum likely be available to auction winners in 2013,” the company said.

The company’s operations in 12 circles where minimal obligatory rollout had been conducted to meet licence conditions will also cease on January 19.

Uninor is a joint-venture between Norwegian telecom major Telenor and Indian real estate company Unitech.
