As the campaign for the two-phase Assembly election came to an end on Saturday evening in Gujarat, Lalbhai Group company Arvind Ltd announced that it would give gifts to its staff after they exercise their franchise on Monday (December 17).

As part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative and to create awareness about the democratic right to vote, the company said here that it has initiated a campaign to create 100 per cent voting by its staff and workers.

In this campaign, the company is persuading its workers by putting up banners and poster across its four units in Ahmedabad as well as in its unit near Gandhinagar

In a statement here, the company said it was alarming that many of the educated urban voters adopt a “laissez-faire attitude” towards elections despite being well-equipped to make an informed and enlightened choice.

The lead taken by Arvind for the cause of democracy, inclusiveness, and its participative nature will go a long way in educating workers about their prime responsibility and showing their faith in democracy.

If other corporate houses also follows the initiative of Arvind, it will go a long way in making workers aware of the value of their vote, the statement said.

In the first phase of polls held on December 13, over 70 per cent voters had exercised their franchise to elect 87 from amongst 846 candidates.

In the second and last phase, 1.99 crore voters are eligible to elect 95 representatives from amongst 820 candidates.

Among those whose fate will be decided on December 17 is Chief Minister Narendra Modi, who is contesting for the third time from the Maninagar Assembly constituency in Ahmedabad.
