Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday asserted that his government is fully committed to protect the interest of farmers by providing irrigation facilities and remunerative prices for their produce.

Addressing a public rally as part of the BJP’s national executive meet here, Modi, in his 50-minute speech, said his government has prepared a pro-farmer blueprint.

Explaining its salient features, he said his government has elaborate plans to introduce technology in the farm sector. The aim is to help traditional farmers modernise their cropping pattern and give them good marketing facilities.

Modi also said a special plan based on the tricolour will be initiated in the coming months. It will be a four-prong approach to initiate a second revolution in the agriculture, dairy and energy sectors.

Green symbolises the farm sector while white stands for dairy. Saffron would be to boost renewable energy. Blue will take care of exploiting coastal areas for petroleum, gas and fisheries.

Modi said Mudra Bank will be launched on April 8. “This will really revolutionise small business and take care of their debt burden and free them out of big banks and money lenders,” he said.

The Prime minister called upon the rich to give up their LPG subsidies. He claimed that thanks to his request, so far 2 lakh people have already given up their gas subsidies. “So far the government has saved around ₹100 crore,” he said.

“When more people come forward to give up subsidised connection, it will not fill the treasury but it will ensure your money is ploughed back into the society.

“When I say ploughed back into society, I mean provide gas connection to over 2 lakh poor households, who are using firewood to cook. It is shameful,” the Prime Minister said.
