The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has urged the Election Commission (EC) to order registration of a criminal case against BJP’s national general secretary, Amit Shah, for his “inflammatory remarks aimed at spreading communal hatred.”
At a meeting in Muzaffarnagar (Uttar Pradesh) on Thursday, which was recently rocked by clashes between two communities, Shah reportedly made statements, to “vitiate the atmosphere of communal harmony at the time of elections,” AAP said in a release.
According to AAP, Shah’s utterances, which have not been denied either by him or his party so far, clearly constituted a criminal offence under Section 153 of the Indian Penal Code, and should be booked without any delay.
“These remarks are a clear violation of the Election Commission’s Model Code of Conduct, according to which: “No party or candidate shall include in any activity which may aggravate existing differences or create mutual hatred or cause tension between different castes and communities, religious or linguistic,” said the release.
The AAP also drew the EC’s attention toward the fact that Shah was currently on bail in a fake encounter case, in which he was facing a trial and was directed by the courts not to enter Gujarat for two years between 2010 and 2012.
