The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today announced that it will field its candidates on all 26 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat, where the party has achieved a membership of over 5 lakh since December 8.

The party strategist and member of the core committee, Sanjay Singh informed that AAP leader and Delhi chief minister, Arvind Kejriwal will campaign across the country for the upcoming general elections.

“After the Delhi poll results, we have seen a wave of membership from Gujarat. So far we have registered 5 lakh members since December 8. However, registration through SMS and online is yet to be counted,” said Singh addressing media here on Friday.

“Delhi results have shown a ray of hope to the people in Gujarat of an alternative to Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress. We will field our candidates in all 26 seats for Lok Sabha polls,” he said.

The senior AAP leader also mentioned that the party will contest Lok Sabha elections from 20 states. The party will appoint a state coordinator – prabhari in each state.

Buoyed by the wave of membership registration in Gujarat, AAP has fast-tracked its efforts for appointing Lok Sabha candidates in the state.

Singh informed that AAP will appoint a screening committee in Gujarat which will scrutinize the candidates and recommend the same to the party’s Political Affairs Committee (PAC).

“We will field a suitable candidate against Narendra Modi and make sure that he doesn’t win,” said Dinesh Vaghela, a member of national committee who has been appointed Gujarat Prabhari.

The party will raise major issues of public interest such as corruption, insecurity, administrative issues, high power tariffs in the state and forced land acquisition.

Meanwhile, alleging Gujarat government for snooping on its party workers and leaders, Singh said, “Gujarat Police and local IB are being used to harass our party workers. One of the recent examples is in Sabar Kantha in North Gujarat, where police made unnecessary interrogation of our lady worker.”
