Gearing up for the Assembly polls in Delhi, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) plans to kick off a 10-day public dialogue on health and education from Saturday.
Promising to set up 900 new primary health centres and 500 new schools if voted to power, the AAP released its health and education “blueprint” for Delhi, where polls are expected to be held in mid-February.
“AAP will give highest priority to health and education at a time when the BJP government has cut healthcare spending by 20 per cent showing its priority towards big business and not its citizen’s well being,” a party release said.
The party’s health and education dialogue follows a “village dialogue” held recently after which AAP launched a campaign against the recent land acquisition ordinance promulgated by the Narendra Modi government.
The health and education dialogue will be held in 16 Assembly constituencies and plans to meet Resident Welfare Associations for their feedback, the party said.
The party’s “blueprint” includes a hike in total budgetary allocation and spending on healthcare from the existing Rs 2,700-4,000 crore, filling up of existing vacancies of 4,000 doctors and 15,000 paramedics and abolition of contractual postings and appointments, among others.
“The party is committed to spend at least 20 per cent of its annual state budget on education sector, a marked increase from the current spending of 15 per cent,” it said.
