A day before its crucial National Council meeting, infighting escalated in the Aam Aadmi Party with the two dissenting founding leaders Prashant Bhushan and Yogendra Yadav attacking national convenor Arvind Kejriwal’s “authoritarian” approach, and the Kejriwal camp accusing the duo of “denting” the party’s image and “violating” its code of conduct by going public with their differences.
Kejriwal, however, remained silent on the issues rocking his party since it rode to power in Delhi with a massive mandate.
Addressing a press conference on Friday after conciliatory talks failed, Bhushan and Yadav, said they had raised five demands, such as bringing the party under the RTI Act, ordering a probe by the AAP’s internal Lokpal into allegations of wrongdoing and giving State units more autonomy to fight local polls.
“We will quit tomorrow if these demands are met,” Yadav said, adding that the issues were not personal but concerned the “trust and expectations of thousands of people and volunteers”.
The Kejriwal camp, in a separate press conference, said the duo were trying to “weaken” the party. “The PAC has decided on some of the five issues Prashant Bhushan raised; some are being worked on,” said Sanjay Singh. Also read p5
