In an attempt to monitor, restrict and regulate the sale of acid, Chennai Police has asked acid suppliers in the city to maintain a register with details including the mobile phone numbers and addresses of customers.
They are also required to make a note of the purpose behind the purchase of the dangerous substance.
In a meeting today with 27 registered acid suppliers in the city, senior police officials, led by the Additional Commissioner of Police V.A. Ravi Kumar, laid out guidelines for the sale of acid.
In a bid to curb acid attacks, Supreme Court had last month directed States and Union Territories to frame rules to regulate the sale of such corrosive substances within three months.
