Women activists belonging to 10 national organisations were detained on Monday as they protested outside Parliament House, demanding the expulsion of Trinamool Congress MP Tapas Pal for his “outrageous comments” at a public rally in Bengal. The detained activists, including AIDWA General Secretary Jagmati Sangwan and Vice-President Sudha Sundararaman, condemned the “injustice embedded in their arrest , when a law-breaker like Pal is being allowed to sit in Parliament”, a release by the organisations said.
