Actor Mithun Chakraborty will be nominated to the Rajya Sabha on a Trinamool Congress ticket.

According to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the actor will be among the five Rajya Sabha members to be elected from the state.

“Shri Chakraborty is a well-known film personality. He has devoted his life to the cause of cultural and social activities with great success. He is an asset not only for West Bengal, but also to the entire country. We are proud to nominate him,” Banerjee wrote on her Facebook wall.

Apart from various awards and accolades that Chakraborty has won over his four-decade career, he has three national awards to his name.

Chakraborty won the National Film Award for best actor twice — in 1976 for Mrigaya and in 1996 for Tahader Katha. He also won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1998 for Swami Vivekananda.
