Malayalam cine artist and BJP's star campaigner Suresh Gopi is likely to be nominated as a Rajya Sabha member soon.

Gopi had politely refused to stand as a party candidate from Thiruvananthapuram constituency in the May 16 elections to the Kerala State Assembly.

He was also considered for the post of chairman of the National Film Development Corporation.

The Rajya Sabha nomination is believed to have come up for discussion when Gopi met BJP national President Amit Shah in New Delhi on Sunday last.

According to party sources, his name will be included in the list of prominent citizens being nominated to the Upper House by the President of India.

Speculation is rife that Gopi may also be considered for a berth in the Central cabinet when it is restructured soon. Currently, Kerala is not represented in the Cabinet.

Meanwhile, the erstwhile action hero of Malayalam films has a busy schedule as the BJP's star campaigner ahead of the assembly elections.

He will accompany Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the latter's campaign tours of the state and also share the podium with him.
