Agartala-Dhaka regular bus service resumed on Friday after over eight months of suspension due to a violence in which a mob torched a vehicle of the fleet in Bangladesh, officials said.

Officials of Tripura Road Transport Corporation (TRTC), which plies the ‘Maitree’ bus, said the vehicle left with passengers for Dhaka this morning.

The bus service was suspended following torching of a ’Maitree’ bus by a mob at Narsingdi in Bangladesh on September 21 last in a case of mistaken identity during a political clash in the area.

However, Bangladeshi bus ‘Shyamoli’ shuttles on the route according to its schedule. ’Maitree’ plies from Agartala to Dhaka on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, while ‘Shyamoli’ shuttles the other days in a week, except Sundays.

The Agartala-Dhaka bus service started in September 2003. Before that, the Kolkata-Dhaka bus service was introduced in July 1999.
